"Caracas is a city more dangerous than Kabul or Baghdad"

The Venezuelan opposition candidate to the National Assembly, Maria Corina Machado, said every 33 minutes to kill Venezuelan Maria Corina
Machado is an industrial engineer, has a specialization in Finance and in 2002 formed one of the founders of Sumate, a civil partnership which has 30 000 volunteers whose goal is to build democracy and defend the rights of Venezuelans and promote citizen participation .
Join For his work, Machado was accused by deputies of the National Assembly and leaders of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela of the crimes of treason, rebellion and conspiracy to destroy the republican form of government. For three years, imposed a prohibition to leave the country.
From January 2008 to February 2009, Machado served as president of the civil partnership until, to stand as candidate for deputy to the National Assembly in the upcoming elections, decided to resign from that position in the organization.
What you think is at stake in the upcoming Venezuelan elections?
Venezuela is at stake in the establishment of a totalitarian system clearly seeks to eliminate the security and democratic institutions, which has even shown an inclination very close to a communist regime which eliminates the freedom of expression and private property all levels. At stake is the beginning of a process of building a prosperous society with equity and institutions that truly serve the needs of all citizens.
Do you think the current government of President Hugo Chavez may be described as "democratic"?
If we define as a democratic government that respects the independence of public powers as a government that respects human rights, private property, freedom of expression, association and protest, if we define democracy as a system which the power or the armed forces are subject to civil authority which allows the realization of fair elections, without interference of public bodies and has no advantages, then we must conclude [that] all these principles are violated repeatedly in Venezuela and there is no truly democratic system.
What are the proposals that lead to the National Assembly?
I feel that, first, what is at stake in Venezuela is the integrity of the family. Murder every 33 minutes a Venezuelan. Caracas is a city more dangerous than Kabul or Baghdad, they are at war. Nothing else in my city, so far this year have killed 426 children under 5 years old. So the issue of security, employment and the cost of life of Venezuelans is crucial to our proposal. I say this as a woman, as a professional, as a mother who feels that Venezuelan families are fragmenting, because we feel that our children, or kill them or leave the country. Two out of three young Venezuelans expressed today, that if they could, they would go to Venezuela.
How Venezuela is currently positioned in relation to other Latin American countries?

For those Latin American countries have democratic and accountable government is very clear that Venezuela is moving away increasingly different Latin American nations and the world. There are some countries that unfortunately have put economic interests above principles, and I think that in the short term, it will reverse against these governments. Because they have ignored their commitments to international treaties that we signed all the nations of Latin America, we believe in respect for human rights and the democratic system.
Why is it important to a National Assembly composed of representatives of different sectors?
I will answer that question in two parts. Genaro Arriagada , an important political leader Chilean , was here a little over a month. He emphatically stated that the most important election that was in Latin America this year was Venezuela, not even the president in Brazil or Colombia. The September parliamentary election will close a road to democracy and will accentuate a clearly undemocratic, authoritarian and militaristic with a high component. He will also achieve a balance of public powers and the beginning of a process of containment this regime with a totalitarian bent .
In this sense, the balance in the National Assembly is crucial. It is a country in which political parties product of the crisis, have had credibility problems and mobilization, which have recently been making an effort to recover. And there are very important sectors in the field of association, community organization and the student movement should also be represented, for the country to understand that it is a moment of national unity and not only cross-party unity.
Under what conditions will the opposition candidates for the next election?
From the perspective of equity are at great disadvantage. Our Constitution prohibits since 1999 funding for political parties, while government and party officials, so brazen, they benefit from public funds for proselytizing.
The Government seeks to social media. Closed Radio Caracas Television, aims to Globovision, has locked up journalists and were more than eight hundred attacks on reporters in the past decade, all of which remain unpunished. Meanwhile, the president of the republic almost daily national chains imposed on us several hours. Additionally, intimidated and persecuted leaders, is disabled by the Comptroller General of the Republic, political leaders, with high acceptance, be registered as candidates. That's the face of government and what public bodies do to intimidate and belittle the opposition.
However, at the level of preference, for me it's clear that today we are the majority of Venezuelans who want a change to transform Venezuela into a better society. We are mostly those who reject the government's abuses and those who want a plural and equitable country. If we work and organize for this is most felt, it will be a majority in the next National Assembly.
Why it is related to the CIA and the U.S.?
For everyone in Venezuela issued an opinion that disagrees with the approaches the president is automatically disqualified or stigmatized. I have had the opportunity to bond with people in the media, parliaments and governments of many countries around the world as part of my job to disclose what the Venezuelan society to solve our problems. If anything we are clear
Venezuelans is that the country's problems and we must solve ourselves. However, I want to convey a message to the international community. Acts to legitimize the abuses and abuses of President Chavez, committed by some governments in exchange for political favors or economic Venezuelans live and suffer as a direct insult. Because we believe in democracy and appreciate the fact that Venezuela has always been a country that opened its arms to all Latin American brothers who had problems or difficult times in their democracies.
